Silent Sky

Joan Kane directed Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson at the Amateur Comedy Club for the Snarks in November, 2022.


Silent Sky is based on real female pioneers. Henrietta Leavitt, an intelligent, educated woman enthralled by astronomy, and excited to be hired to work in Harvard’s Observatory, comes to Cambridge full of expectations. But, this is the early 1900s. The women astronomers at Harvard are not even allowed to use the telescope! Not just another play about women striving for recognition in the in the workplace, “Silent Sky” is a thrilling tale about love, life, and legacy.

The show featured Amanda Catton-Johnson, Matthew James Fitzgerald, Ellen Swanson, Pat Tiné and Heidi Wisbach.


The costumes were by Amy Ludlow, lights by Bruce A! Kraemer, projections by Jim Marlowe, sound by Carlene Sobel and Ed Matthew, props by Patricia Rosenberg, hair and make-up by Shelley Heller, stage manager Kathleen Moore, light board operators Lee Burnley and Sally Sockwell.
